More than just a café
About Språkcaféet
Our beginning
Språkcaféet is a new kind of themed café where languages and human connections are at the heart of the experience. What was once only a dream for the café’s former owner, Tonia Tell-Cerexhe, became reality when Språkcaféet opened its doors in February 2004 at Esperantoplatsen in Gothenburg.
Tonia had recently become single in Chicago and longed for a place where people could meet in a relaxed atmosphere with diversity at its core. She discussed the idea with a friend, and the dream slowly began to take shape. Languages and international environments had always been a passion for Tonia, and she herself spoke five languages fluently. The rest is history.

Where are we today?
Today, Språkcaféet has new owners with the same vision, different approaches and new plans for the future. At Språkcaféet, you can practise your language skills, enjoy a light lunch or simply appreciate the café’s unique and beautiful architecture. The evenings are dedicated to drop-in conversation sessions, where you can take the opportunity to explore a new language or keep your existing language skills alive. The atmosphere evokes the feeling you can only experience at a café abroad. That special feeling when everyone around the table comes from different countries and connects through their shared love of languages, food and people.
